Transport of dangerous goods by road, rail, waterways and air poses a significant risk to people, property and the environment due to potential accidents. Transport of dangerous goods by road, with regard to the properties of dangerous goods and the dynamic process of traffic in the transport network, which is subject of changing circumstances and unforeseen events, is prone to various risks. With the use of modern technological approaches and IT solutions such transports can be controlled, managed and directed resulting in significant reduction of the risks on the road network as one of the key elements of the national critical infrastructure. Project Risk Management of transport of hazardous substances on the main road network by using geographic information system (GIS) and methodological and technological solutions to monitor and manage the transport of dangerous goods on the national road network in real time addresses solutions for reduction of risks in the transport of dangerous goods the road network. The project contains methodological principles and model of vehicle guidance and determination of safe routes for the transport of dangerous goods on the road network and a system for monitoring and managing the transport of dangerous goods. The model is also useful for the needs of a wide range of road users and traffic actors and can be upgraded to meet their needs.
The project was carried out within the project team, which consisted of LUZ (Coordinator), Lineal, OMEGA consult. and the Slovenian Road Agtency and was co-funded by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Home Affairs (HOME).
